Multilit is a program created by educators from Macquarie University with the aim to improve the basic reading skills of students. MULTILit stands for Making Up for Lost Time in Literacy, the word attack program has been specifically designed for teaching readers from about 7 years of age and upwards who are reading at a level lower than what should be expected for their age. It is based on research showing that the most effective reading instruction for limited readers involves intensive, systematic instruction. The method of delivery at Melville is one to one tuition, using short (10 minutes per student), explicit, direct instructions 3 times per week (more if possible).
MULTILit is coordinated by Elizabeth Warrand (LSC). Parent volunteers are always welcomed.
For more information about MULTILit or to offer your services as a volunteer, please contact the school who will put you in touch with the appropriate member of staff.
